Tariff Act 1988 Repeal Bill EXPLANATORY NOTE GENERAL POLICY STATEMENT The purpose of this Bill is to liberate importers from the payment of tariffs as currently prescribed by the Tariff Act 1988. The Bill has no effect on the imposition of excise duty charged on imports, nor does it have an effect on the imposition of anti-dumping or countervailing duties. CLAUSE BY CLAUSE ANALYSIS Clause 1 is the Title clause. Clause 2 provides that the Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. Clause 3 provides that the Act repeals the Tariff Act 1988. Clause 4 provides for a consequential amendment to the Dumping and Countervailing Duties Act 1988. The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows: 1 Title This Act is the Tariff Act 1988 Repeal Act 2010 . 2 Commencement This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. 3 Tariff Act 1988 repealed The Tariff Act 1988 (1988 No 155) is repealed. 4 Consequential amendment to Dumping and Countervailing Duties Act 1988 This section amends the Dumping and Countervailing Duties Act 1988. The definition of Shipment in section 3(1) is amended by omitting Shipment has the meaning given to it in section 2(1) of the Tariff Act 1988 and substituting shipment includes loading into an aircraft; and to ship and cognate expressions have corresponding meanings .
